Who is an electrophysiologist?

Electrophysiologists are eligible to perform specialized tests of your heart's electrical system, such as electrophysiology or ablation. Blood pumping is a mechanical problem that involves the heart muscle and vessels. Many cardiologists deal with the mechanical function of the heart. Remembering to pump blood is an electrical problem. The heart has an electrical system that sends impulses for muscle contraction.  When there are problems with the electrical signals in the heart, the result is arrhythmia-irregular heartbeat. These problems are treated by electrophysiologists. Electrophysiologists can use many tests and treatments just like other cardiologists. However, electrophysiologists can also perform specialized tests called electrophysiology studies (EPS), which can also allow procedures such as pacemaker placement, insertion of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), or catheter ablation to treat arrhythmia. How is an electrophysiologist different from a cardiologis

Preventive cardiologists

Preventive cardiology is a subspecialty that focuses on reducing patients' risks of developing heart disease and having their first heart attack or stroke while preventing further problems in people who already have cardiovascular disease. Our team is made up of experienced doctors, nurses, dietitians and exercise physiologists who are a recognized pioneer in preventing heart disease in both immediate and highly complex cases, such as young patients who have had a heart attack. First, we assess each patient's risk of developing cardiovascular disease - or the risk of experiencing a cardiovascular event, such as a heart attack or stroke - and examining genetic factors and other conditions that could affect patients' health in the future. We then develop patient-specific medical plans to powerfully reduce each individual's risk factors. We also serve as expert resources for patients who want to learn more about test results, research studies, new treatments, and other hea

What is Cardiothoracic Surgery?

Cardiothoracic surgery is a type of specialized surgery that involves procedures on the organs of the chest, such as the heart, lungs, and esophagus. According to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), the term "cardiothoracic surgeons" is an inclusive term. General thoracic surgeons Cardiovascular surgeons Congenital heart surgeries The terms "cardiac surgeon" and "thoracic surgeon" are interchangeable. Cardiothoracic surgery can be used to treat many conditions, including: Coronary artery disease (blockage of the arteries) Lung cancer Emphysema Hyoid hernia Swallowing disorders Cardiothoracic surgery involves a variety of procedures, including open chest operations, laparoscopic procedures, and robot-assisted surgery. Cardiothoracic Treatments Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) During this procedure, arteries or veins from other parts of the body join with the coronary arteries to relieve angina and reduce the risk of death from coronary artery disease

What is Treadmill stress test?

The stress test is a form of cardiovascular stress test that uses exercise with electrocardiography (ECG) and monitoring of blood pressure. This form of stress testing is usually done with exercise protocols using a treadmill or bicycle. Patients who are unable to exercise may benefit from the administration of a pharmacological agent that simulates the activity of the heart during exercise. This article will focus specifically on treadmill exercise stress tests. With stress testing, we can determine a patient's functional capacity, assess the likelihood and extent of coronary artery disease (CAD), as well as assess the risks, prognosis, and effects of therapy. Exercise Physiology Exercise is associated with sympathetic stimulation and changes in coronary vasomotor tone that affect coronary blood flow. Several studies have reported that the coronary arteries dilate during exercise. Some reported mechanisms that may contribute to this dilation include the release of vasoactive subst
